Scope of Veterinary

"Veterinary is not only a profession it is a passion"

India is the largest livestock population holder in the world. India produces the maximum amount of milk in the world. Along with milk, we the Indians are the largest Carabeef exporter. The poultry sectors also account for one of the major producers in the livestock sector. For maintenance of such large livestock herd, we have a group of heroes known as veterinarians. But still, we all are searching for the scope of veterinary in such an opportunistic country. The problem is that we are not aware of the scopes and the opportunities available in the veterinary sector. I am sharing 10 point scope of veterinary in this blog.

  • Veterinarian's first and foremost career which is very popular among veterinary students in India is Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Officer, Livestock Officer, or Assistant Veterinary Surgeon. All posts are the almost same in nature but different states use different nomenclature for the recruitment. The Union Public Service Commission and State Public Service Commission are responsible for the recruitment. Generally, the post carries Level 10 Group A or Group B salary in various states. Some states like Haryana, Punjab, and Central Government are giving NPA along with the salary which accounts for 20% of basic pay according to the 7th CPC. The salary without NPA is around 65000 per month in almost all Indian States.

  • Army or Paramilitary is the sole dream of some aspiring vets in India. Many of the Veterinarians are attracted by the Indian Army and Paramilitary forces. Fortunately, the Indian Army has separate regiments for the recruitment of veterinarians known as the Remount Veterinary Corps. Indian Army recruits veterinarian as an officer (Captain Rank), which provide the highest salary to any graduate veterinarian in the government sector. As the Indian Army recruits veterinarians on Level 10B additionally providing them N.P.A, maintenance kit allowance, and military service pay. Paramilitary forces like S.S.B, C.R.P.F, C.I.S.F, B.S.F & I.T.B.P are recruiting veterinarians as Assitant Commandant (which is now equivalent to newly recruited I.P.S). They are recruited on level 10 with NPA.

  • Research opportunities in Veterinary& Animal Sciences. There is a wide scope of research activities in the field of Veterinary and Animal sciences. The COVID19, Ebola, and many zoonotic diseases tell us the importance of the research activities in the field of medical and veterinary medicine. The integrated research programs might be launched in the future to tackle such situations. The main research opportunities in the field of veterinary and animal sciences are postdoctoral fellowships and scientists. There are various research organization which recruits scientists and postdoctoral fellows in India. Some of the organizations are I.C.AR, I.C.M.R, I.I.S.E.R, I.I.Sc, D.R.D.O, I.C.F.R.E & C.S.I.R The minimum eligibility criteria is one should complete their P.hD in veterinary & animal sciences with valid NET or JRF in CSIR, ICMR, BET, GATE, and ARS.

  • Teaching is an important part of imparting education to young and budding veterinarians. It is very definite that veterinary & animal science colleges which are preparing budding vets require a teacher or better to say professors. Veterinarians are recruited as Assistant professor, Associate Professor, or Professor with eligibility conditions. Veterinarians are recruited basically on Level 10 according to 7th CPC. The 62 functional veterinary colleges in 23 states and 3 union territories teaching almost 5.5k students annually require many professors. The minimum eligibility requirements for the assistant professor from 2021 is P.hD in a relevant subject with valid ARS NET.

  • Veterinarians in abroad after doing graduation in India has an ample scope. The veterinarians in several countries are enlisted in short of occupation. As the required number of veterinarians are less. Many countries borrow veterinarian form different countries in the work. Being a student from the Indian Veterinary Medicine system you always have an edge due to the quality of education provided is the best among the developing countries with a nominal fee structure. There are two ways to move abroad whether to practice as a full-time veterinarian in foreign countries or move for higher education & research purposes. Both have different pathways, if you want to practice as full-time veterinarian abroad the most preferred places for any Indian are Canada, USA, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. These countries are English speaking countries paying a huge amount of salary as well as permanent residence options so any Indian student can choose these countries. But there is one problem which hurdles your dream to practice in these countries and the hurdle is the license exam. The veterinary graduates from India need to clear the license exams to prove their equivalency with their veterinary medicine system. Canada & the USA use NAVLE for license and residency purposes. Whereas the UK uses RCVS and Australia & New Zealand uses NVE for granting veterinary practice licenses in their countries. Middle eastern countries recruit veterinarians directly without any licensing exam with promised visa, accommodation, and arrangements for the family with an annual salary of around 30 LPA. If you are planning your higher education and research abroad then you can move directly with IELTS, TOEFL, and GRE (in the USA) for masters, P.hD, and postdoc.

Indian Dog Breeds

  * IGNORED FOUR LEGGED CREATURES : An Indian Perspective  In support for the cause called by our Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi 's call for adopting Indian Canine breeds, presenting you a compiled data of popular indian dog breeds .   Our native, indigenous dog breeds have largely been ignored, unrecognised, overlooked and neglected . These four legged creatures are not just our companions and trustworthy friends for life, they also play an important role in disaster management and rescue operations. They are expert detectives who can find an alive person under the debris of a collapsed building site.  The cost of upkeeping and rearing these Indian breeds is also less.  Also they are hardy and compatible with our Indian environmental conditions and do not fall sick often.  So,please do your bit in supporting the cause of ‘AtamNirbhar Bharat' by adopting these poor creatures who are the creatures of our own motherland.        ...
